FAQs

An online hearing test is designed to evaluate a person’s hearing ability. Conducted through a web browser or a mobile device, such tests will typically ask you to listen to various tones/sounds at different frequencies and volumes, or to indicate whether or not you can hear a sound. Rexton’s online hearing test takes less than five minutes and is a great place to start when determining whether or not you need to speak to a professional.
You may want to consider an online hearing test if you experience things like difficulty hearing conversations in noisy environments, or regularly having to ask people to repeat themselves. There are other symptoms to look out for including having trouble hearing high-pitched sounds, finding it difficult to register which direction a sound is coming from, or dealing with a constant ringing in your ears – otherwise known as tinnitus. Please note, however, that online hearing tests are not a substitute for seeing a professional.
An online hearing test can be a useful tool when you are just starting to look into your hearing and any potential issues you may have. However, such tests should not be used in place of meeting with your GP, an audiologist or even an ENT (ear, nose and throat specialist), all of whom can carry out a more thorough and accurate assessment.
If you are between 18 and 40 and have no concerns, it is generally recommended you check your hearing every 3-5 years. If you are between 40 and 60, the recommendations for a check-up range from every 2-3 years, with adults aged 60 and above encouraged to check their hearing once a year. Please remember that if you see a change in your hearing or begin to experience common symptoms of hearing loss, do not wait for your next scheduled test. See a professional as soon as you can.
If you are worried you are losing your hearing, there are several steps to take – with one of the most important being to book an appointment with an audiologist or ENT (ear, nose and throat specialist). It is also helpful to take a note every time you have a problem with your hearing, to better understand some of the reasons why you may be experiencing difficulty. It is also really important to be open with friends and family so they can provide you with the support you need.
